Dear Baby,

by - April 30, 2011

...I've waited for nine months to meet you. Now, I have only a little bit longer to wait.

Someday, when you're old enough to read, I'll show this letter to you.

Dear Baby,
Hi. I'm your big sister, Gwen. Your biggest sister, actually. You've got six older siblings!

You're going to be born into a Catholic family. We're going to teach you all about our Faith, about Jesus, God, Mary and all the saints. We're going to watch out for you, protect you, and love you. I promise to be the best big sister you ever did see. I owe it to you. You're my birthday present, you know! I found out you were coming two days before my birthday. I had prayed so hard for you.

Now, you're almost here! I'm hoping within the next 24 hours. Actually, I was expecting to be on my way to visit you at the hospital by now. But I suppose you're not quite ready to meet us yet. That's okay.

So here's what I wanted to say;
First of all, I confess that I am sort of hoping for another sister. Someone to play dolls with Mariana and I. I'll love you just the same if you're a boy though!
Anyway, that's neither here nor there.

This letter is a sort of promise to myself. I promise to love you, protect you, cherish you and support you, through thick and thin, no matter what. Sister or Brother.I'm sure you'll drive me out of my mind at times. You know, the usual; destroy something I've worked hard on, spread a mess where I just cleaned up, sing a song you know I hate, repeat a movie line over and over and over again, pull my hair, or make fun of my TV crushes.

However, despite the irritation (and sometimes even anger) I know you'll bring on me, I know that you'll bring some truly precious moments into my life as well. I'll be able to hold you for the first time, sing to you, see you smile for the first time, laugh for the first time, walk for the first time...
I'll be able to witness many of your firsts, which will be such a joy for me! I'll also be able to cuddle you when you're sad (or even when I'm sad), tell you stories, and marvel at another precious gift from God.

That's what you are, you know. A little miracle from Heaven.:)
Another beautiful gift from God. Don't ever forget it.

Another thing; I want to apologize in advance for all the angry words I'm probably going to say to you. I'll warn you, I have anger management issues. Here's me telling you right now, I don't mean all the mean things I say. I love you.

No pressure or anything, but maybe, if you're a girl, you'd consider joining the convent. You see, I think Papi really wants me to become a holy Sister, but that's just not the life for me. I know, how awful am I? I'm wanting you to make up for my failings! I'm just kidding. Be whatever you are called to be.

I'm very eager to find out what you look like.Actually, I mainly want to know what your eyes color is. Our family is an interesting mix of blue, green and brown. Except for Mariana. She's got an even more interesting mix if all three colors. It depends on the light.

Will you be blonde? Dark, dark haired like Papi and I? Or sort of in the middle-ish? I can't wait to find out.

Here's something I want you to always, always remember. God loves you. He made you, and he loves you. If, at any time, you feel like the world's against you, nothing is working out, everything seems hopeless, remember; there is always hope, and there is always God.
Pray. He'll listen.

Anyway, I have to go finish my assignment for next week.
And who knows, maybe by the time you're old enough to read, my book will be finished, and we can read it together!

Lots of love, from your biggest sister (who also loves you the most! ;).
